Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems, GIS systems, and spatial data analysis is required. The candidate must exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills, adaptability, leadership qualities, and effective communication abilities, especially in dynamic startup environments. Responsibilities The Lead R Data Scientist will be responsible for establishing and enforcing best practices in R package development, code architecture, documentation, and dependency management. They will oversee the implementation of versioning and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems to streamline workflows and ensure high-quality deliverables. Providing guidance and mentorship to team members on code standards, deployment processes, and technical strategies will be a key aspect of the role. The candidate will serve as the technical authority for complex computational tasks, particularly spatial analytics and GIS-based product development, translating scientific research findings into robust, production-ready code. Collaboration with the Engineering department is vital to align code design, versioning strategies, and release cycles, ensuring seamless integration of software components. Additionally, the role involves maintaining infrastructure for data security and IP protection, supporting the deployment of scalable solutions on cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, and possibly working with containerization tools like Docker. The candidate will also contribute to strategic planning for future technological advancements within the team and organization.
