About The Role

Disney Digital Entertainment is seeking a talented and experienced Lead UI/UX Designer to join our dynamic team on an ambitious new project aimed at revolutionizing interactive experiences for Disney fans. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the visual and user experience of groundbreaking game titles and interactive content based on beloved Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars properties. As a key member of the development team, you will oversee the design and implementation of user interfaces that are both engaging and intuitive, ensuring a seamless and immersive experience for players. Working remotely with potential minimal travel, you will collaborate closely with project leads, developers, artists, and stakeholders to craft compelling UI/UX systems that align with Disney’s high standards of quality and creativity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of game development experience, including at least one shipped game in a lead or managerial role.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine and/or UEFN, with experience using UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics), Blueprints, and Verse scripting language.
  • Experience leading and developing content across multiple gaming platforms such as console, PC, and mobile.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Deep appreciation and understanding of Disney’s IP, including characters, lore, media franchises, theme park design, and aesthetics.
  • Proven ability to create UI mockups and wireframes using tools like Figma or equivalent UI design software.
  • Excellent understanding of user experience best practices to create smooth, engaging, and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Experience working with 3D game engines and knowledge of UI design constraints and opportunities within such environments.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying design ideas clearly and effectively to diverse teams.
  • Educational background with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project leads and developers to design, develop, and refine UI elements and game experiences that are engaging and fun.
  • Lead the UI development team, managing workflows, timelines, and deliverables to ensure high-quality output.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for user interfaces, ensuring alignment with project goals and style guidelines.
  • Develop UI content using Unreal Engine, UEFN, and scripting in Verse within both development and live-service environments.
  • Work closely with art directors to develop and maintain consistent UI style guidelines that reflect Disney’s branding and aesthetic standards.
  • Design, implement, and iterate on UI and UX systems to enhance gameplay and user engagement.
  • Write detailed design documentation, including specifications, guidelines, and user flow diagrams.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior UI designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot UI challenges and implement solutions that improve user experience.
