About the role

Freelance Senior Video Editor & Motion Designer

Fully remote | £350 to £450 per day | Freelance, flexible days | Starting late October, with more work through November

I’m recruiting on behalf of a design-led digital creative agency with offices in London and Finland, working with some of the largest technology brands in the world. They need a freelance editor who also designs motion graphics, to work alongside their existing creative and motion team.

The work

Documentary-style films and customer stories, cut from real footage. The core of the job is taking a long interview, often an hour or more of it, finding the story inside it, and shaping the pacing so it holds. Alongside that you’ll be building 2D motion graphics in After Effects, usually to make complex technical information land on screen. There are shorter social versions cut down from the main films too.

What they actually need

This is a genuine hybrid role, not an editing job with a bit of animation attached. You need to be strong at both.

On the edit: long-form interview craft, narrative instinct, and the ability to take a script or storyboard and work out how it’s best told.

On motion: real After Effects work. Building and animating 2D graphics that carry information, and working to supplied brand assets and house style. Cinema 4D or Blender is a bonus rather than a requirement.

On finish: your work is reviewed by their Motion Director and design team, and they judge on craft. How the cut feels, how it’s paced, how it’s graded, and above all how it sounds. Dialogue that’s been properly mixed and music that’s been chosen rather than dropped in. If you take your own work through grade and mix to a delivered standard, say so, because it’s the thing that decides this.

The shape of it, upfront

This is proper freelance. The work comes in peaks and the client can’t commit to a fixed number of days a week. Some weeks will be busy, some will be a day or two. They need someone who can flex with that rather than someone looking to block out a month at a set day count. If you need guaranteed days, this one isn’t for you and I’d rather say that now.

What we need

  1. One complete film, start to finish. Not a showreel of best moments. A whole piece, so they can see whether you hold a story together. Tell me which parts were yours: the picture, the grade, the sound mix. If any of those were someone else’s, just say which. Being straight about it counts in your favour.
  2. Your motion graphics work, as a separate link or reel.

Any tech or corporate clients you’ve worked with are worth flagging, since a lot of this is making complicated subjects make sense visually.
