User Experience Designer

Job Title: Senior Web Developer / UX Designer (Contract)

Location: Remote (must be based in Texas)

Duration: 4-month contract with possibility of extension

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior UX Designer with strong experience in user-centered digital design to help create technology solutions that drive meaningful impact in education. In this role, you will ensure products are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with user needs, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. This position offers extensive latitude for independent judgment and initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead UX/UI design efforts, ensuring all design decisions follow industry best practices and agency-wide standards.
• Translate research into user stories, requirements, flows, wireframes, and prototypes while contributing to the product roadmap.
• Conduct user testing and outreach to validate design solutions and improve usability.
• Collaborate with product managers, developers, and senior leadership to deliver cohesive design solutions.
• Ensure designs and applications meet federal accessibility guidelines.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 8+ years in software product development, digital design, UX/UI, or related field.
• 8+ years designing mockups/wireframes based on UX best practices.
• 8+ years conducting user and usability research.
• 5+ years with strong writing, organizational, and communication/facilitation skills.
• 4+ years leading large-scale UX/UI initiatives.
• 4+ years developing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes in Figma or similar tools.
• 3+ years ensuring compliance with federal accessibility standards.
• Portfolio demonstrating user research, visual design, and usability studies.

Preferred Skills:

• 3+ years of experience with Atlassian Jira.
• 2+ years working with or supporting state/local education agencies.
