Job Description

IMPORTANT | EQUITY OFFER

We want to be fully transparent: while the job posting on Wellfound requires listing a salary range, please note that we do not offer traditional cash compensation. Instead, we provide equity in the company through a shareholder agreement as compensation.

As a startup, most team members balance their work on Dreambook with freelance or part-time jobs. Initially, we’re seeking a commitment of 10-20 hours per week, with flexibility for meetings as needed. Thank you for understanding, and we appreciate your interest in being part of this journey!

About Us:

We are Chronicle Creations Inc., a startup building Dreambook, an adaptive learning tool designed to empower children to create their own stories. Our mission is to inspire children’s creativity by combining storytelling and art in an interactive, child-friendly platform. Our team includes professionals in software engineering, education, and finance, all committed to making Dreambook a success and supporting young creators in bringing their imaginations to life.

Our Leadership:

Charles David Jameson (CEO) – 8 years in education and tech, leading projects that combine learning and creativity.

Andrew Schools (CTO) – 25+ years in software engineering and DevOps, specializing in Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and automation.

Jennifer Chan (CFO) – 14 years in finance, raising millions for tech startups and leading multiple M&A exits.

Gabriel Pantoja (CMO) – UX research and customer experience expert, specializing in behavioral science and organizational development.

Our Culture: At Chronicle Creations, every team member holds equity and is personally invested in the company’s success. We value creativity, collaboration, and shared ownership.

What We’re Looking For

Dreambook seeks a vector-style illustrator who can paint vivid, modular “worlds”—complete scenes that children (ages 3-8) can drop their characters into while crafting stories on the iPad. Alongside classic settings—spaceports, forests, castles—you’ll create thematic scenes that visually convey ideas like “Be kind to others,” “First day at school,” or “Overcoming a fear.” These aren’t icons; they’re fully realized backgrounds and foregrounds that embody each lesson or life event. Character-asset help may pop up, but your main mission is scene design that mixes and matches smoothly while retaining charm and clarity.

Vector-only pipeline: Applicants must show a portfolio with clear vector environment/scene samples. Raster-only work will not qualify.

Responsibilities

Design modular vector scenes (“worlds”)—layered foreground, mid-ground, background, and prop sets that snap together in a drag-and-drop editor.

Illustrate thematic story scenes (e.g., siblings sharing toys, a supportive teacher on the first day of school, a child comforting a friend) that convey key life lessons or milestone events.

Maintain a unified visual language—palette, line weight, proportions—in partnership with the Art Director.

Organize layered SVG/AI/PDF files for Retina iPad export (1×–4×) using clear naming conventions.

Jump in on character or UI assets when needed, keeping everything consistent with Dreambook’s style.

What You’ll Need

8+ years professional illustration experience and a portfolio of vector scene/environment work (games, apps, animation, or similar).

Mastery of Illustrator, Figma, Affinity Designer, or comparable vector tools—symbol libraries, path editing, asset optimization.

Proven ability to build mix-and-match environment modules (parallax layers, prop packs, palette variants).

A kid-centric eye: bold shapes, friendly silhouettes, inclusive storytelling, and gentle emotional cues.

Excellent file-organization and communication habits in a distributed team.

Availability for 10–20 hrs/week with fast iteration on feedback.

Bonus: Lottie/SpriteKit animation skills, accessibility know-how, or prior children’s-product credits.

What We Offer

Equity compensation (no cash salary at this stage).

Flexible scheduling that meshes with freelance or part-time work.

The chance to shape a product that empowers kids worldwide to read, write, and imagine.

Growth potential as Dreambook scales—expanded hours and creative leadership opportunities.

How to Apply

Apply with a portfolio link highlighting vector scene/environment work (required).

We can’t wait to see the worlds—and life lessons—you’ll bring to life in vector form!
