Job Description

Posted on: December 16, 2025

We are looking for a Shopify fluent site production manager who lives inside the theme, understands how a custom Shopify build is wired and can translate business and creative ideas into clean, efficient implementations.

This person will be hands-on in our custom built theme every day. They will own theme configuration, layout builds and QA. They will write high quality tickets for our dev agency that include both front end behavior and back end configuration needs and they will work closely with merchandising and creative to keep the site on brand and easy to manage.

Core responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day configuration and evolution of our Shopify theme
  • Manage all page, collection and template builds using sections, blocks, nested blocks and metafields.
  • Implement and maintain visual navigation, content modules, banners and dynamic components using the tools the development team has already built.
  • Continuously evaluate our current components, identify limitations and proactively propose improvements.
  • Think, conceptualize and independently drive Shopify-native solutions
  • Develop ideas and functional solutions without requiring constant guidance or approvals.
  • Tinker, test and validate concepts directly in our theme to understand feasibility before escalating.
  • Present clear recommendations backed by Shopify knowledge, user impact and technical reasoning.
  • Take initiative to own small and medium features end-to-end, from concept → spec → build → QA.
  • Translate designs and business needs into theme implementations
  • Take or other design team’s mocks and determine what can be executed with the existing component library and what requires new development.
  • Build all feasible layouts directly in the theme configurator.
  • When new development is needed, write clear, structured specifications that include:
  • Expected front end behavior
  • Required configuration options in the theme editor
  • All relevant metafields/metaobjects
  • Partner with internal engineers when technical constraints or dependencies require deeper analysis and insight.
  • Manage development tickets, workflow and QA
  • Own the functional spec portion of all theme-related tickets.
  • Collaborate with internal engineers for technical notes and dependencies.
  • Test all development work in staging, ensuring functionality, configuration options and design fidelity are correct.
  • Document new blocks, sections and patterns so the entire team understands how to use them consistently.
  • Support merchandising, retention and campaign execution
  • Understand how product structuring, collections and site merchandising impact conversion.
  • Implement merchandising changes directly in Shopify and own product builds, collections management, navigation updates, filtering logic, etc.
  • Suggest practical, theme-native ways to execute campaigns, promos and storytelling without over-relying on net-new development.
  • Identify moments where Shopify-native logic outperforms app-heavy or workaround solutions.
  • Act as the internal Shopify subject matter expert
  • Stay current on Shopify releases and updates to understand new capabilities to inform the team of.
  • Understand the limits of our theme, developments’ architecture and Shopify’s platform.
  • Advise the broader team on what is possible natively, what requires bespoke development and what should be avoided.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal Shopify questions before escalating to development.
  • Own reporting related to site structure and build health
  • Provide ongoing reporting on theme performance, component usage, site stability and opportunities for optimization.
  • Surface recurring pain points and propose fixes or re-architecture where needed.
  • Track the success of implemented features and document learnings for future iterations.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience working on Shopify stores in a hands-on capacity
  • Direct experience working with custom themes, not only off-the-shelf themes
  • Proven ability to build pages and layouts using sections, blocks, metafields and metaobjects
  • Comfortable working with and around code. You do not need to be a full developer but you know how to read theme structure and speak with engineers
  • Experience collaborating with external dev agencies, including writing tickets and doing QA
  • Strong eye for layout and UX. Comfortable mocking up simple modules and layouts in Figma, Photoshop or similar
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced DTC environment where the site changes often and testing is ongoing
  • Curious, detail oriented and willing to experiment and learn new Shopify features

Nice to have

  • Experience with Replo or other landing page builders
  • Experience with subscription apps and complex promo logic
  • Basic Liquid understanding is a plus

This candidate will sit under Sr. Ecommerce Manager on the digital team and will work closely with our development team, creative and the department lead. This role is intended become the primary owner of “how” things get built on the site.
