About the role

This role is direct hire, 100% remote with no more than 10% travel.

Compensation $120-140K+ (based on experience), plus full benefits.

Our client is a leader in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered pumps and motors for critical applications in power generation, nuclear research, and small modular reactor (SMR) development. They design, engineer, and manufacture to order.

To support a large contract with a SMR to custom engineer and manufacture reactor pumps for a new build, they are expanding their Advanced Nuclear Group and have created new Design Engineer position.

The people hired into these roles will provide non-supervisory engineering work though all phases of new unit design, development, manufacture, test, and commissioning.

Requirements:

  • Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
  • BSME and 3+ years of mechanical engineering design and analysis for rotating machinery such as pumps and motors, turbomachinery, rotordynamics analysis
  • Background with nuclear power generation equipment
  • Strong SolidWorks (or comparable software) or solid modeling
  • ASME BPVC design, ideally with focus in ASME Section VIII Division 2 or ASME Section III
  • Experience with some FEA analysis (static, thermal, frequency, transient, non-linear)
  • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings, standards and specs. Comfortable with GD&T
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles associates with the design, analysis and operation of centrifugal pumps
  • PE license or ability to gain it

Plusses:

  • Analysis experience with complex loading combinations and seismic analysis
  • Clean-sheet mechanical/machine design (design of large fabrications/weldments
  • High temperature design experience
  • Experience with NQA-1 quality program and safety related equipment

Responsibilities:

  • Translate contract design specifications and code requirements into the requisite product design of components, subassemblies, and assemblies
  • Preparation of manufacturing drawings, contractual submittals, calculations and analysis, procedures, test plans, and reports
  • Utilize FEA software for stress/structural analyses, frequency analyses, seismic analysis, and thermal analyses
  • Provide technical support to end users during the installation and commissioning of the manufactured equipment
  • Support all aspects of unit design including initial planning, concepting, mechanical design, material selection, calculations, and (possibly) test plan creation
  • Interface with customers and vendors as required in the performance of design activities
