UI/UX Designer

Role Description This is a part-time, remote role for a UI/UX Designer. The UI/UX Designer will design user-centered interfaces for web and digital platforms that communicate environmental information and public services clearly and accessibly. Day-to-day tasks include conducting user research, defining user flows, creating wireframes, designing mockups, and building interactive prototypes. The role involves collaborating with product owners, developers, and communication teams to ensure consistent visual design and an intuitive user experience. The designer will iterate based on feedback, usability insights, and accessibility requirements, while contributing to design guidelines and best practices for the Ministry’s digital presence.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in User Experience Design (UED), including user research, journey mapping, and creating intuitive information architectures.
• Proficiency in Visual Design and Mockups, with the ability to produce clear, modern, and accessible UI layouts aligned with a public-sector brand.
• Experience with Prototyping tools and workflows to build and test interactive designs before implementation.
• Basic understanding of Front-End Development concepts (HTML, CSS, responsive design) to collaborate effectively with development teams.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UI/UX projects, preferably including public sector, civic tech, or environmental initiatives.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and designing for diverse user groups and devices.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills in an online, distributed team environment.
• Relevant degree or training in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
