Integrated at the heart of the art team and directly working under the management of the Art Director, the Lead Artist is responsible for leading and delivering a variety of projects depending on skillset, ranging from cinematic illustration projects, concept or cosmetic design projects, vis dev projects and more, on schedule and meeting client and internal quality standards. This role requires a high degree of ownership, autonomy, and leadership, acting as a key bridge between the Art Director, production teams, and artists. The Lead Artist will be comfortable mentoring others and providing feedback on their work and they will be actively involved in building dedicated project teams alongside the Art Director. Great communication skills and genuine enthusiasm for collaborative team working is a must for this role. This is a fully remote role, starting out freelance, with high likelihood of joining our awesome global core team on a longer term basis. Responsibilities

  • Working across multiple concurrent projects, adapting to different styles, teams, and client requirements as needed
  • Alongside the Art Director, researching and collecting visual materials to help define and benchmark the visual style and contents of the project.
  • Communicating closely with the Art Director and working in tandem with them daily to develop and deliver the highest standard of art production and processes.
  • Leading by example in the day-to-day creation of world class art work.
  • Leading and developing project-based teams of artists, ensuring alignment, quality, and delivery..
  • Balancing hands-on art production with oversight responsibilities including providing feedback to team members on WIP work.
  • Reviewing and approving final subtask work, ensuring work meets quality standards, before submission to ADs for review.
  • Preparing, packaging, and performing technical checks on final deliverables to ensure they meet project and client specifications
  • Collaborating closely with Production/Project Management teams to support planning, tracking, and successful delivery of milestones.
  • Representing Mooncolony in both internal and external communications where required.
  • Hands on benchmarking new projects where required.
  • Developing a positive and energetic team culture.
  • Bringing your own experience of best working practices to the team.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 8 + years industry experience.
  • Fluent English with the ability to provide clear, constructive written and verbal feedback in a supportive manner.
  • Excellent eye for composition, colour theory, design, with advanced understanding of value, lighting and perspective.
  • Strong rendering skills, and ability to adapt to different art styles.
  • Ability to visualize ideas from others quickly and clearly during ideation/sketch phases.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to give precise and timely feedback to artists of different levels, and to gauge the level of support needed according to their skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction, taking ownership of projects and team outcomes.
  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to keep pace with management and production.
  • Excellent 2D art skills and expertise in Photoshop.
  • Ability to work comfortably under pressure and towards deadlines, juggling multiple tasks.
  • Must be driven, motivated and have meticulous attention to detail.
