As a Staff Design Engineer at GitHub, you’ll be both a strategic visionary and a hands-on practitioner, adept at generating innovative ideas and building upon the creativity of your peers. Your passion for prototyping new concepts and collaborating across disciplines will be key as you work at the intersection of design and front-end engineering. Partnering closely with systems designers, engineers, and product managers, you’ll champion high-quality design and user experiences. We’re looking for someone who can drive transformative solutions, elevate design standards, and continually expand their expertise in cutting-edge design technologies and methodologies. Design Engineers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they're given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful design projects. For this specific role, you will report directly to the Interim Head of Design. Responsibilities

• Estimate and create individual and team schedules, define and prioritize product plans, and influence the prioritization of the product backlog to ensure clarity and alignment across teams.
• Work with teams to generate ideation solutions for products facing moderately complex challenges, synthesizing user needs and business insights to improve product designs.
• Efficiently bring designs to life by creating robust interactive prototypes, collaborating with engineering teams to ensure successful implementation, and performing quality checks to meet design expectations.
• Shape and refine information architecture by approaching discovery phases with a multilayered perspective, ensuring robust and intuitive systems while continuously evolving and scaling design systems for long-term growth and impact.
• Create wireframes, journey maps, and personas to support interaction designs, and produce high-quality visual design deliverables that adhere to brand and inclusivity principles across various interfaces.
• Contribute to the adoption and integration of the latest design system components, ensuring product alignment and consistency with company-wide standards, while continuously evolving the system to support the growth and changing needs of the organization.
• Communicate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams throughout all stages of ideation, design, and development, managing tonality and context to ensure clear and inclusive messaging.
• Work with team members, product managers, and developers to define and iterate on product features, while influencing stakeholders across job families to enable collaboration and leverage previous work.
• Produce high quality designs from concept to delivery. Create needed visual design and interaction design deliverables including assets, animations, and flows. Advocate for and oversee brand adherence and promotion of inclusivity principles, ensuring designs are accessible.
• Develop interactive experiences that align with GitHub’s brand vision and collaborate with Engineering for successful design implementation.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:

• 10+ years experience in product or service design

• OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years experience in product or service design
• OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience in product or service design
• OR Doctorate in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience in product or service design
• OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 14+ years' experience in product or service design
• 8+ years of experience shipping products and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process
• Knowledge of typical data center designs/architectures and be following industry design trends
• Experience with performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review
• Engineering experience working in modern web development (e.g., React, CSS, HTML, JavaScript methodologies, etc.)
• Experience with WCAG compliance and/or implementing accessibility best practices.

Compensation Range The base salary range for this job is USD $127,600.00 - USD $338,500.00 /Yr. These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. GitHub values
