Illustrator – YouTube True Crime & Catastrophe Content (Freelance)

An illustrator is required to produce semi-realistic, sketch-style artwork for use in YouTube videos centered on true crime investigations and major catastrophes. The artwork should convey a dark, cinematic, and dramatic atmosphere, supporting the storytelling with expressive characters, tense scenarios, and heightened emotion. The style should maintain a textured, hand-drawn feel while being adaptable across serious historical and conceptual themes. This is a remote freelance role for a single project, with the possibility of follow-up work based on results.

Responsibilities

• Create semi-realistic, sketch-style illustrations that align with scripts and video content.
• Capture tense and dramatic moments with expressive character work and atmospheric settings.
• Deliver layered PSD files (or equivalent formats) suitable for video editing workflows.
• Adapt style to cover both historical events and conceptual visualizations.
• Work collaboratively by taking briefs, incorporating feedback, and making iterative improvements.
• Ensure timely delivery of illustrations for integration into production schedules.

Skills and Requirements

• Strong skills in digital illustration using Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, or equivalent tools.
• Ability to create semi-realistic art with a textured, hand-drawn aesthetic.
• Experience in visual storytelling, such as YouTube illustration, publishing, comics, or editorial artwork.
• Comfort working with dark, cinematic, and emotional themes.
• Understanding of composition, lighting, and atmosphere to enhance narrative tension.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work to deadlines in a remote freelance capacity.
