Accessible Communications Lead
Purpose of the role
To ensure the people we support and their families can access information and communications that are clear, relevant, and engaging, by leading the development and delivery of accessible communication across the organisation.

Key responsibilities
- To work within the Communications and Involvement & Engagement teams to develop and deliver an accessible communications strategy that ensures clear and effective communication with the people we support and their families.
- To work in partnership with Stakeholder Engagement colleagues to garner the views and perspectives of people we support and families to shape our communications.
- To produce a range of accessible information, including written, audio and video pieces, ensuring inclusion for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people.
- To work in partnership with people with lived experience and colleagues to understand and meet the needs of the intended audience.
- To work in partnership with our team of UR Consultants (lived experience experts) to translate complex information into Easy Read and other accessible formats for the people we support and other relevant stakeholders
- To work with the UR Consultants to quality assure the work you produce with lived experience experts.
- Collaborate and work with support service teams to understand and deliver content that is most relevant and engaging for our audiences.
- To evaluate the effectiveness of accessible communications and make recommendations for improvements.
- To produce regular reports showing key highlights and learnings from audience engagement for our Communications team.

Essential Criteria
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (including plain English).
- Evidence of project management/organisational skills
- Evidence of previous experience producing accessible materials and information
- Evidence of enabling inclusion for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent colleagues.
- Evidence of previous experience in graphic design e.g. leaflets, booklets, posters etc).
- Evidence of production of a wide range of digital media including websites and video editing.
- Knowledge of accessible design principles and accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG).
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Ability to work remotely
- Willingness and ability to travel within the local geographical area as required
- Willingness to undertake required training
Desirable criteria
- Lived experience of having a disability
- Experience facilitating co-production or working alongside experts by experience
- Previous work in a social care and/or charitable sector
- Knowledge and/or experience of using InDesign
