The subreddit, created in 2017, has grown to 254K members, sharing photos of homes that are more about size than taste. Logan, a moderator, says the page is filled with horrific monstrosities that are impossible to pick favorites from.

Kate Wagner, the creator of McMansion Hell, started her blog as a side project to critique wealth and material culture in America. She combines humor with architectural criticism, highlighting how McMansions reflect rising wealth inequality.

Kate believes these homes are fascinating artifacts of society, showcasing questionable aesthetic taste. However, she enjoys urban life and has little interest in living in a McMansion.

Critics argue that McMansions can destroy neighborhood character and create nuisances for nearby residents. They often block views, require excessive resources, and disrupt community privacy.
