Apple has announced its next event, and the logo has fans feeling nostalgic about a possible return for the colorful translucent Mac.
The tech giant recently sent out invites to a 'special Apple Experience' set to take place in New York, London, and Shanghai on March 4.
For now, details for the event have been kept strictly under wraps, but eagle-eyed fans think they may have spotted a clue that something fun is on the way.
The invites prominently feature the Apple logo in a colorful translucent ombre design going from yellow, to green to blue – and social media users think it has a hidden meaning.
Could Apple be reviving its colorful translucent tech?
Back in the 1990s most computers were housed in drab-looking grey plastic, but in 1998 Apple launched its iMac in a range of bold colors, including blue, green, purple, and pink.
The iMac was followed a year later by the equally cheerful-looking iBook laptop, which had colors including Blueberry, Tangerine, and Key Lime, and came with a little carry handle.

The new tech was a significant departure from other similar laptops at the time, which were a lot more conservative and professional-looking.
These days, Apple still releases colorful options, such as its Sky Blue MacBook Air or its Macs that are offered in a full range of colors, but they’re no longer translucent.
However, some Apple users think the logo showcased on the recent invite could be a subtle clue that we can expect translucent and colourful Macs in the future.
A screenshot of the invite was shared to Reddit where fans spotted its similarities to the 1990s-style Macs.
“With the transparency in the invite design, would be kinda wild if they released transparent color stuff like the original iMacs/iBook,” one said.
“The logo instantly reminded me of the 90s and the iBook G3,” another said.
Others questioned whether the logo could be a hint that Apple is moving away from aluminum and back to plastic casings, while someone else just hoped to see the handle return.

While there’s no official word on whether the logo hints at a revived version of the old colorful Mac, you may be interested to learn that the company has recently filed a patent that could see another retro feature return.
The backlit, glowing Apple logo could be making a comeback to MacBooks, thanks to a patent for 'partial reflective mirror structure'.
So, it seems as though Apple might be looking at ways to nod to its past.
Here’s what is expected to be unveiled at the event
Although Apple has remained tight-lipped on exactly what the 'special event' is for, it’s been rumored the company is gearing up to unveil a slew of new tech.

Bloomberg reported that the company will be sharing new products 'as early as the week of March 2,' meaning the date would fit nicely with the scheduled event.
According to Bloomberg, the tech giant is expected to unveil the new iPhone 17e, which will join the recently released iPhone 17 family.
Alongside the new iPhone, its also rumored to be revealing cheaper entry-level MacBook, a new iPad 12 and iPad Air, as well as upgraded M5 chips for the MacBook Air and Pro.
Of course, for now, all of this is simply speculation, but thankfully, we don’t have too long to wait to find out, with the event set for March 4.
