The latest Apple Music album and playlist design, introduced with iOS 26.4, has garnered praise from many users but is facing significant criticism from dark mode enthusiasts. The new feature adapts the interface colors to match the album art, which can lead to bright screens at night when selecting albums with light-colored backgrounds.
For those who rely on dark mode to keep their phone screens dim during nighttime use, these sudden interface 'flash bangs' are causing frustration. Although it might seem like a minor issue, the Apple Music subreddit has been flooded with complaints since the release of iOS 26.4, highlighting that some users are more sensitive to this change than others.

A permanent solution would require Apple to update its software. Potential fixes could include the system selecting from a palette of dim colors when in dark mode or offering a setting to tweak the behavior specifically for dark mode users.
In the meantime, a workaround is available: enabling the Increase Contrast accessibility option for Apple Music. This setting forces the app to be less aggressive with its adaptive theming, keeping the background for album song lists black in dark mode.

With Increase Contrast on, the top region may still display white edges, but the track list appears in the traditional dark mode style with white text on a black background.
To enable Increase Contrast system-wide, navigate to Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size and toggle on Increase Contrast. However, for a more targeted approach, you can apply this setting only to the Apple Music app by going to Settings -> Accessibility -> Per-App Settings -> Add App -> Apple Music and enabling the Increase Contrast toggle there. To revert, simply edit the Per-App Settings list and remove the customizations for Apple Music.
