Discover How Wedge Studio Embraces European Design Aesthetics in Montreal

Wedge House: A Blend of European Aesthetics and Modern Functionality

Design agency Wedge has drawn inspiration from the Danish brand Frama to create Wedge House, their unique office in Montreal. This stunning space features a dusty pastel color palette and bespoke furniture tailored to enhance both aesthetics and functionality.

Founders Sarah Di Domenico and Justin Lortie transformed a 2,000-square-foot brick house into a vibrant office, merging two distinct addresses, including a former hair salon and an apartment. The renovation involved gutting the original structure and creating a cohesive space that promotes collaboration and creativity.

Inspired by European Culture

The design was heavily influenced by the communal atmosphere observed in Frama's Copenhagen showroom, where staff gather for meals. Lortie expressed the desire to replicate this sense of connection and community in their office while also providing private spaces for focused work.

The layout consists of a ground floor designed for collaborative work and a first floor that feels more homely. The material palette of aluminium, oak, and soft whites contributes to a calming environment, essential for the studio's twelve team members.

A Vibrant Color Palette

Wedge House is characterized by its dusty pastel colors, including shades of blue and yellow, along with more vibrant accents. Lortie describes the color choices as a “love letter” to their favorite places in Copenhagen.

The duo meticulously designed custom furniture to fit their vision, including a 12-foot kitchen table and a specially crafted sofa that embodies their design ethos.

Capturing Creative Hospitality

Ultimately, Wedge House reflects the studio's philosophy of creative hospitality, where comfort and connection are prioritized. Di Domenico emphasizes the importance of gathering, inspiration, and community in fostering a productive and innovative workspace.

With a design that encourages collaboration and creativity, Wedge House stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design in the workplace.
