Discover the Stunning URUL House: A Blend of Nature and Architecture

Overview

Completed in 2023 in the picturesque Wayanad, India, the URUL House, designed by STUDIO TERRATECTS, is a remarkable two-bedroom residence. This project is a testament to the harmonious integration of architecture with the natural landscape, catering to a couple who cherishes nature.

Design Philosophy

URUL House is strategically positioned against a rocky hill, offering a panoramic view of Chembra Peak. The design emphasizes a seamless connection with nature, highlighted by the Indian Rosewood tree that serves as a focal point. The cantilevered ground floor minimizes earth disruption, creating an elevated balcony-like experience.

Interior Layout

The interior layout promotes an open concept, allowing for natural light and ventilation. Glass walls replace the south-facing wall, inviting the outdoors in and offering stunning views from every angle. A unique circular cutout in the entrance frames the landscape beautifully.

Sustainable Practices

The construction of URUL House merges traditional techniques with modern innovation. Local materials were used, and the team conducted extensive research with local masons to develop sustainable building practices. This includes the use of mud plastering, which offers waterproof and insect-proof qualities, refined through training local artisans.

Environmental Considerations

The design also took into account the local environment, addressing potential landslide risks by implementing drainage solutions and planting bamboo for soil stabilization. URUL House is not just a residence but a sustainable living solution that respects and integrates with its natural surroundings.

  • The house acts as a living sundial, allowing residents to gauge time by observing the shifting shadows throughout the day.

URUL House exemplifies a visionary approach to modern architecture, marrying form and function while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Its design not only provides a breathtaking living space but also serves as a model for future architectural endeavors that respect and enhance their natural settings.
