Overview
Completed in 2024 in Nicosia, Cyprus, the Domus Maya House designed by Studio Kyriakos Miltiadou stands out in a new urban neighborhood, juxtaposing the urban chaos of residential buildings to the south with vast agricultural fields to the north. This two-story house features 3 bedrooms and a guest room, catering to a young family of four.
Design Concept
The design reinterprets the traditional courtyard typology, creating a modern living experience. The house consists of two main elements: a rectangular prism and a vertical wall that envelops it. The prism, measuring 12x10 meters, is sculpted to create a dynamic interplay of solid and void, facilitating natural light and ventilation, while also delineating public and private spaces.

Architectural Elements
- The vertical wall, standing 3.5 meters high, acts as a boundary against the noisy neighborhood, incorporating three openings for controlled views. Behind it lies a hidden central square, enhancing social interaction.
- The incorporation of Cypriot vegetation in the outdoor spaces emphasizes a connection with nature, allowing it to gradually reclaim the structure as it ages.

- First Floor: Comprises two bedrooms with a shared bathroom and an ensuite bedroom.
Conclusion
The Domus Maya House exemplifies a dialogue between solidity and porosity, privacy and exposure, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of modern living. Its design not only respects traditional Cypriot architecture but also innovates for contemporary needs.
