Heatherwick Studio has unveiled its latest architectural marvel, Hatai, a dual-hotel project in Bangkok, Thailand, inspired by the traditional Thai lanterns. This marks the studio's first venture in Thailand, blending modern design with cultural heritage.
A Glowing Beacon in Bangkok's Skyline
The 10,500-square-metre development features two hotels: Six Senses and Narai Hotel, offering over 300 rooms. The design showcases stacked, rounded forms that glow at night, aiming to add "softness and soul to the city skyline."
More Than Just Hotels
Beyond accommodations, Hatai includes a ballroom, conference facilities, and a wellness center. The project also introduces a 5,200-square-metre public space beneath the towers, featuring elevated walkways, a plaza with native planting, an open-air market, and a restored canal.
Connecting with Thai Heritage
Thomas Heatherwick, the studio's founder, emphasized the importance of reflecting Thailand's rich culture in the design. "We wanted to do something that connects with the country's heritage in a deeper way," he said.
A Vision for the Future
Set to open in 2028, Hatai is part of Heatherwick Studio's growing portfolio in Asia, known for innovative shapes and sustainable designs. This project follows their recent works in Xi'an, China, and Tokyo, Japan.
