A Historic Berlin Apartment Reimagined
Adele Helmers and Stephan Raczak, a dynamic husband and wife designer duo, embarked on their most personal project yet: transforming a 1,938-square-foot historic Berlin apartment into their dream home. The couple, with backgrounds in real estate renovation and design, saw the potential in what they describe as “a true diamond in the rough.”
The Design Process
Helmers, an American with a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, and Raczak, a German real estate developer, combined their expertise to create a space that reflects their unique styles and needs. “This apartment will never really be finished because I’m always thinking of something else I want to change,” Helmers admits, highlighting the evolving nature of their home.
Challenges and Triumphs
The renovation was not just a design challenge but also a race against time, with a baby on the way. The couple had to balance aesthetic desires with practical considerations, ensuring the space was both beautiful and functional for their growing family.
A Labor of Love
Their apartment stands as a testament to their creative collaboration, blending historic charm with modern design elements. It’s a space that continues to evolve, much like their lives together.
