Transforming a Victorian Gem: Inside a Stunning London Bridge Pied-à-Terre

A New Chapter in London Bridge

After traveling as backpackers, Wade and Lisa, originally from Australia, fell in love with the London Bridge area, ultimately deciding to renovate a 1,292-square-foot Victorian home they had rented out for years. With plans to use it more frequently during their visits, they enlisted the help of Duelle, an interior design firm based in London and Milan.

Innovative Design Solutions

Duelle's designers, Micaela Nardella and Melanie Law, focused on creating a serene and contemporary pied-à-terre with an emphasis on clever space utilization. They implemented smart storage solutions throughout the apartment, including a solid oak bed with integrated luggage storage and custom millwork that conceals radiators and snowboards. The kitchen features a pull-out pantry and an island that doubles as a workspace, enhancing functionality and flow within the space.

A Harmonious Aesthetic

The aesthetic of the apartment was influenced by the couple's previous experiences with Duelle's joinery designs. Natural oil-rubbed European oak was employed to delineate areas within the home, while a cohesive color palette creates an illusion of spaciousness. Pale green tones in the living areas contrast beautifully with the rich peach of the bedroom, contributing to the apartment's inviting atmosphere.

Reflecting History in Design

Elements of the local history are woven throughout the design, from the basket-weave parquet floors to bathroom tiles inspired by ancient Roman artifacts. The couple’s love for vintage glass lighting fixtures adds a touch of nostalgia, reflecting the area's rich glassmaking heritage. Duelle's extensive experience with luxury spaces has culminated in a compact yet stylish home that feels both warm and sophisticated.

Stunning Finishes and Details

The principal bedroom features a handcrafted solid oak storage bed and artwork by Ruby Bateman. The kitchen boasts Art Deco sconces, while custom cabinetry and a Lusso Stone faucet enhance the overall elegance. Every detail has been meticulously curated, resulting in a luxurious retreat that balances modern living with historical charm.
