Valve's Next VR Headset Design Praised as "Quite Amazing" by Lynx Founder

Valve's Next VR Headset Design Receives High Praise

The founder of Lynx, a French startup known for the Lynx-R1 standalone mixed reality headset, has publicly praised the design of Valve's upcoming VR headset, codenamed Deckard, calling it "quite amazing". This endorsement comes from someone deeply involved in the VR industry, hinting at the potential groundbreaking design of Valve's next offering.

A Glimpse into the Future of VR

Lynx, which aimed to be the first with a standalone headset featuring color passthrough mixed reality, faced delays, allowing competitors like Quest Pro and Apple Vision Pro to lead the market. Despite these setbacks, Lynx's founder, San Larroque, has seen Valve's next headset and was impressed enough to share his admiration, albeit without revealing specifics to avoid leaking proprietary information.

Key Insights:

• Larroque suggests that Lynx and Valve share some component suppliers, which might explain his access to Valve's design.
• Valve has been working on this new headset for years, with hints pointing towards features like wireless PC streaming, inside-out tracking, and advanced passthrough capabilities.

What We Know About Deckard

Recent discoveries by VR enthusiasts have shed light on potential features of the Deckard:

• Controllers: Models named 'Roy' were found in SteamVR files, revealing a glimpse of the design and inputs.
• Specs: References to a proof of concept model suggest 2K LCD panels and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, though final specs may differ.

Design Evolution: A Valve design patent from three years ago showed a headset design, but given the evolution of their controller designs, the final Deckard headset could look significantly different.

The Anticipation Builds

With no recent leaks about the headset's design, the VR community is eagerly awaiting more information. Valve's next headset is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases in the XR industry, promising to push the boundaries of virtual reality technology.
