The Rise of Vivo's Vision MR Headset
Another Vision Pro knock-off is making waves, this time from Vivo, a Chinese smartphone giant known for its mid-range devices. At the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan Province, Vivo showcased its first entry into the XR segment: the Vivo Vision.
In a press statement, Vivo announced that this move aligns with their broader strategy to expand into robotics and XR devices, labeling the Vivo Vision as a significant milestone in their exploration of mixed reality technology.

While the official unveiling of the Vivo Vision is expected in mid-2025, details about its specifications, operating system, release date, global availability, and pricing remain scarce. However, a display model revealed that Vivo is drawing design inspiration from the Apple Vision Pro, featuring a similar headstrap design, a digital crown button, and a magnetically-tethered external battery.
Notably, Vivo's smartphones run on modified versions of Android, using Funtouch OS globally and Origin OS in China. As this is Vivo's first XR device, there’s speculation that they may leverage Google’s upcoming Android XR OS, which is set to launch alongside Samsung’s Project Moohan this year.
This trend of look-alike Vision Pros from Chinese manufacturers is growing, with notable competitors like Play for Dream, whose MR headset received high praise at CES 2025 from former Quest engineer Amanda Watson, who called it “the best all-around HMD demo” she saw at the event.
