About Afterrealism
Afterrealism is a small geospatial software consultancy in Canberra. We build maps, data platforms, and cloud systems for organisations across Australia to a standard set inside Geoscience Australia and CSIRO. Small is the point: you work directly with the founder, your decisions ship, and you can see exactly where your work lands.

About the role
You'll be the analytical backbone of our client engagements — taking raw, messy spatial data and turning it into products people can actually make decisions with.
You'll work directly with our principal engineer on real projects from day one: preparing datasets, running analysis, producing maps, and making sure everything that leaves the building is right.
What you'll do
Run spatial analysis and geoprocessing (vector and raster) for client projects
Prepare, clean, and transform spatial datasets with tools like GDAL/OGR, PostGIS, and QGIS
Produce publication-quality maps and visualisations
Quality-assure spatial outputs before delivery
Document data sources, workflows, and methods
What we're looking for
2+ years of hands-on GIS experience
Strong QGIS or ArcGIS skills
Working SQL, ideally with PostGIS
A solid grasp of coordinate systems and projections
Clear written communication
Nice to have
Python for geospatial (geopandas, rasterio, shapely)
Remote sensing experience
An eye for cartographic design
Experience with Australian government data
