Job Description

Posted on: September 13, 2025

About aiomicsWe build the cloud‑and‑AI layer that hospitals actually adopt.

We build the secure, private, and intuitive platform that connects patients and practitioners. Aiomics helps providers do more of the work that matters by making complex clinical admin fast, accurate, and explainable. Our platform is built on a modern, cloud-native stack (Next.js, Vercel, AWS) designed to be secure, resilient, and privacy-first from day one. We’re not a medical device (yet), but we build to that bar: traceability, risk thinking, and compliance (HIPAA/GDPR) by design are non-negotiable.

Why now: We’re about to kick off a critical pilot across 6–7 hospitals in one of Germany’s largest groups. The near‑term goal: deliver such obvious time savings and quality gains that group‑wide deployment becomes the default. We need a founding engineer to own the core product experience and ship the platform that will make this pilot a resounding success.

How we work: We keep iteration loops tight, review whole user journeys (not just screens), and ship small slices quickly so we can see real behavior as early as possible. We use Vercel v0 for rapid prototyping to align on product direction before writing production code. We prize taste, details, and speed with quality—the combination that consistently yields products clinicians want to use.

Location: Berlin or remote (EU time zones). Travel: optional site visits.

The challenge you’ll own

Ship a world‑class, performant, and intuitive web platform for patients and practitioners, leveraging a cutting‑edge stack to deliver a seamless user experience, even on constrained networks.

What success looks likeBy month 3

  • The new brand guidelines and design tokens from our incoming designer are fully implemented across the platform, likely via an extended Tailwind CSS configuration, resulting in a polished and consistent UI.
  • A robust end-to-end (E2E) testing suite (e.g., using Playwright or Cypress) is established from scratch, providing reliable test coverage for all critical patient and practitioner workflows.
  • The E2E test suite automatically runs against every Vercel Preview Deployment, blocking merges on failure and providing a high-confidence quality gate before shipping to production.
  • Our Turborepo monorepo is optimized, with clear package boundaries, efficient build caching, and a streamlined process for sharing components and utilities.

By month 6

  • Test coverage is expanded beyond E2E to include unit and integration tests for key business logic and components, leading to a measurable decrease in regressions.
  • p95 initial load is under 1.5 seconds, achieved through a strategic mix of rendering modes like Partial Prerendering (PPR) and Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR).
  • Data-heavy practitioner dashboards feel instantaneous due to a sophisticated caching strategy that balances data freshness and performance (e.g., revalidateTag, Data Cache).

High‑leverage work you’ll likely do

Translate Figma designs and Vercel v0 prototypes into polished, production-ready components. Architect a sophisticated rendering strategy, choosing the right tool for each view: SSG for static content, ISR for dashboards, SSR for session-aware pages, and PPR for dynamic-static composites. Own our Next.js Middleware for authentication, routing, and feature flagging. Implement fine-grained caching strategies across the stack, from the client (Tanstack Query) to the server (Data Cache) and the edge (Full Route Cache). Master Vercel’s platform, optimizing build outputs, managing environment variables, configuring caching headers, and deploying to Edge Functions where it provides a clear performance win.

Collaborate directly with our new designer to translate brand guidelines and design tokens into a scalable theme within our Tailwind CSS configuration. Establish our E2E testing strategy from the ground up, writing robust tests and integrating them into the Vercel CI/CD pipeline. Optimize our Turborepo monorepo, managing shared packages and improving build performance across the board.

What you’ll bring

  • You have architected and scaled production Next.js applications, making expert trade-off decisions between different rendering modes (SSR, SSG, ISR, PPR) to optimize for performance, cost, and UX.
  • You possess deep, hands-on experience with the Vercel platform beyond vercel deploy, including optimizing its build pipeline, managing complex environments, and troubleshooting serverless function behavior.
  • You have used Next.js Middleware for more than just authentication, such as for localization, A/B testing, or advanced routing logic.
  • You have a nuanced understanding of caching in the Next.js ecosystem, from client-side state to server-side data revalidation and Vercel's edge network.
  • You have hands-on experience building and maintaining automated testing suites, especially E2E testing with frameworks like Playwright or Cypress in a CI/CD environment.
  • You are proficient with monorepo tooling (preferably Turborepo) and understand the principles of building scalable frontend architectures with shared packages.
  • You have experience working closely with designers to implement and maintain design systems.

What makes this a rare opportunity

  • Upside participation: Opportunity to receive early shares in a venture-funded AI start-up with the ambition to grow very big.
  • Immediate, real‑world impact: You’ll see your work used by clinicians within weeks, not years, directly influencing patient care.
  • A cutting-edge stack: Go deep on the latest technologies—Next.js 15, React 19, Server Components—and build a greenfield product the right way.
  • Build it right, then fast: We obsess over taste and whole‑journey quality, and we keep our hands in the medium—clickable prototypes, ship small, review carefully.
  • Credible team: You’ll work directly with a physician‑CEO (deep user‑research mindset), a lawyer‑COO (operations and hospitality rigor), and a CTO with a decade in full‑stack data science.

Hiring process (fast and respectful)

  1. Intro call (30 min) to align on outcomes and constraints.
  2. Working session (60–90 min) tailored to the role—walk through trade‑offs on a real product problem.
  3. Portfolio/code review (role‑specific).
  4. Founder conversations focused on decision‑making and past outcomes.
  5. References (we invite you to pick people who’ve seen you at your best).
