Art Director

BuildingGreen (est. 1985) is the longest continuous running green building publication. We serve the top global universities and architecture firms with ad-free, hand-made, original content in the form of stand-alone quarterly digital issues and web exclusives, which are available at buildinggreen.com.

We're looking for a full-time Art Director with a serious interest in environmental sustainability to support our Editor-in-Chief. The ideal candidate will have strong creative skills and a portfolio of work which demonstrates their passion for illustrative design, novel graphic treatments, and typography. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with numerous different design platforms such as digital and print forms. (Yes, we aspire to get back to analog.)

Responsibilities

• Work with the Editor-in-Chief to set the tone for the issue
• Develop original graphic concepts, copy layouts, and typography
• Source images and photography to support strong visuals
• Organize image rights and approvals for copyright compliance
• Schedule work deliverables to maintain production velocity
• Publish the issue in Flipsnack or similar digital platform
• Support the development of web articles and exclusives

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in professional graphic design
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Art, or related field
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, especially In Design
• Portfolio of work that reflects comfort with publications
• Demonstrable interest in architecture and sustainability a major plus
