Narrative Designer
Job Description
Posted on: June 4, 2026
Creston Games is an independent game studio driven by a simple goal: creating games that offer something genuinely new. We believe that memorable experiences come from bold ideas, thoughtful execution, and a willingness to challenge established genre conventions rather than follow them.
Our team brings together developers from different backgrounds who share a passion for craftsmanship and creative ownership. We value deep work, autonomy, and collaboration, giving every team member the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the projects they help build. Rather than relying on formulas or chasing trends, we focus on designing experiences that feel distinctive, intentional, and memorable.
We are currently developing a semi-open world cooking/adventure game that combines exploration, progression, emergent gameplay, and cooperative systems into a unique player-driven experience. If you're excited about helping shape ambitious ideas from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you
Note: This is a revenue share position, compensation will be based on revenue sharing, rather than an upfront salary.
Job Description
As a Narrative Designer, you will help shape how players experience the world, its characters, and its stories. Your work will connect gameplay and narrative, ensuring that every interaction, event, and progression system contributes to a cohesive and memorable player experience.
Working closely with the Creative Director, Game & System Designers and Writers, you will create narrative content that supports exploration, emergent gameplay, and player-driven storytelling. We are looking for someone who understands how narrative can enhance gameplay without restricting player freedom, creating experiences that feel natural, engaging, and meaningful.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement narrative content that supports the game's world, characters, and core gameplay systems.
- Create quests, events, character interactions, and environmental storytelling opportunities.
- Develop dialogue, lore, and narrative structures that strengthen player engagement.
- Collaborate with Game Designers to ensure narrative and gameplay work together seamlessly.
- Create and maintain narrative documentation, character profiles, and world-building materials.
- Identify opportunities for storytelling through gameplay systems and player actions.
- Iterate on narrative content based on feedback, playtesting, and project needs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Narrative Designer, Writer, or similar role in games or interactive media.
- Strong understanding of narrative design principles and interactive storytelling.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills in English.
- Ability to create compelling characters, dialogue, and world-building content.
- Understanding of how narrative integrates with gameplay systems and player progression.
- Strong organizational skills and experience maintaining design documentation.
- A portfolio demonstrating narrative design, writing samples, or shipped projects.
- Ability to work independently in a remote and asynchronous development environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with branching dialogue systems and non-linear storytelling.
- Familiarity with narrative implementation tools in Unity.
- Experience designing content for multiplayer or cooperative games.
What We Offer?
- A role in shaping the world, characters, and stories of an ambitious game project.
- A culture that respects deep work, avoiding unnecessary meetings and bureaucracy.
- A rare opportunity to help define a new IP from its earliest stages.
- A role where you earn a direct share of the game's revenue, ensuring your contribution is reflected in the project's success.
