Note: This is a revenue share position; compensation will be based on revenue sharing, rather than an upfront salary.

Job Description

As a Senior VFX Artist, you will take ownership of the visual effects direction for the game, creating high-quality stylized effects while helping define and maintain a consistent VFX pipeline and standard across the project. Your work will play a key role in shaping gameplay feel, visual feedback, and the overall atmosphere of the world.

You will collaborate closely with gameplay designers, developers, and artists to ensure VFX not only look great but also enhance readability, responsiveness, and player experience. In addition to creating effects, you will help guide implementation practices, optimize performance, and support other team members where needed.

This role is both creative and technical, requiring strong artistic judgment as well as hands-on experience integrating and troubleshooting VFX in Unity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the creation of high-quality stylized real-time VFX for gameplay interactions (cooking actions, impacts, frying, chopping, steam, smoke, etc.).
• Design and implement environmental VFX such as ambient particles, atmospheric effects, heat distortion, dust, and weather-related visuals.
• Own and maintain VFX standards, ensuring consistency across all effects in the game.
• Implement and integrate VFX directly in Unity using particle systems and VFX tools (e.g., VFX Graph).
• Optimize VFX for performance across target platforms (particle budgets, overdraw, texture usage, shader complexity).
• Participate in gameplay testing and iterate on effects to improve timing, clarity, and impact.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a VFX Artist on shipped or in-development games.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating stylized real-time VFX and gameplay-focused effects.
• Proficiency with Unity VFX workflows (Particle Systems and/or VFX Graph).
• Solid understanding of timing, motion, and visual communication in gameplay contexts.
• Strong grasp of optimization techniques for real-time effects.
• Experience working in a collaborative game development environment.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of features and systems.
• Strong communication skills and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with shader-based VFX workflows (Shader Graph / HLSL).
• Experience establishing VFX pipelines or leading VFX direction in a team.
• Familiarity with stylized art pipelines and readable game visuals.
• Experience working in remote and international teams.
• Interest in cooking-themed games.
