Type: Contract, potential to extend

About Fabra

We are building a web-based 3D product design tool for physical goods. A key unlock for us is realistic material behavior and simulation, especially for garments and soft materials.

The Role

We are looking for a Material & 3D Simulation Researcher to work on:

  • Fabric physics modeling
  • Material behavior in browser environments
  • Performance trade-offs for real-time simulation
  • Researching lightweight soft-body systems
  • Bridging academic physics research into practical browser implementation

This is a focused R&D role. You will produce:

  • Technical research briefs
  • Simulation prototypes
  • Performance analysis
  • Recommendations for production implementation

What You’ll Explore

  • Cloth simulation techniques for browser environments
  • Reduced-order models for fabric behavior
  • Material modeling (stretch, drape, weight)
  • Feasibility of GPU-based soft-body simulation in WebGPU
  • Comparison of existing engines vs custom lightweight engine
  • Performance constraints on standard laptops

Ideal Background

  • Background in physics, computational modeling, or simulation
  • Experience with cloth simulation systems
  • Strong knowledge of C++, Python, or simulation frameworks
  • Familiar with GPU computing
  • Comfortable bridging research into production environments
  • Bonus: fashion or garment simulation experience
  • Bonus: experience with Browzwear, Clo3D, or similar systems

Deliverables (3-Month Contract)

By the end of the contract, we expect:

  • A clear recommendation on Fabra’s simulation strategy
  • Prototype demonstrating feasibility
  • Performance benchmarks
  • Architecture proposal for integration

This role may extend into longer-term R&D leadership as we deepen our physics engine capability.
