VOLUNTARY VIDEO EDITOR WANTED – KIDS BLACK HISTORY
1 video per month | Remote | Portfolio-building opportunity
Kids Black History is looking for a talented and creative Video Editor to join us on a voluntary basis, helping us continue to create engaging, high-quality educational content for children around the world.
🌍 ABOUT KIDS BLACK HISTORY
Kids Black History was created with a simple but important mission: to make Black history, culture and stories engaging, accessible and exciting for children.
Since launching, our YouTube channel has grown to:
⭐ 47,000+ subscribers
⭐ 7+ million views
⭐ A global audience of children, parents and educators
⭐ Content broadcast and licensed across children's media platforms
⭐ Recognition within the children's content and education industry
In September 2025, Kids Black History was also invited to YouTube Kids' 10th Anniversary celebrations in New York, alongside some of the world's leading children's content creators.
Our work has also been recognised through awards and industry opportunities, including winning Best Online Business at the Lewisham Business Awards, being named a Women in Tech Excellence finalist, and taking part in creator events and industry discussions with YouTube, BBC Children's & Education and other leading organisations.
🎥 THE ROLE
We're looking for an editor who understands that editing children's content is about much more than simply cutting footage together.
You’ll help us turn filmed content into videos that are fun, energetic, visually engaging and able to hold a child's attention, while supporting our wider mission of helping children see Black history and culture represented positively on screen.
The commitment is approximately:
• 1 completed video per month
• Videos typically 3–8 minutes long
• Primarily educational YouTube content
• Occasional children's music video edits
• Remote and flexible working
You can view the Kids Black History YouTube channel to get a feel for our existing editing style, content and production quality.

🎬 WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHO:
• Has experience with Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or similar
• Has a good eye for pacing, music, graphics and storytelling
• Understands—or wants to learn—how to edit engaging content for children
• Can work independently and meet an agreed monthly deadline
• Is creative and happy to bring ideas to an edit
• Is interested in children's media, education, Black history, culture or purpose-led content
Previous professional editing experience isn't essential. Talent, creativity and reliability matter more to us.
✨ WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM IT
This would particularly suit an aspiring editor, film/media student, recent graduate or emerging creative looking to build real-world experience and a strong portfolio.
Rather than editing practice footage, you'll be working on content that will be published to an established YouTube audience of 47,000+ subscribers and has the potential to be watched by children, families and educators around the world.
You'll gain:
• Published editing credits for your portfolio
• Experience working with an established children's YouTube brand
• Experience editing both educational and entertainment-led content
• The opportunity to experiment creatively within children's media
• A professional reference following a successful period working together
• The chance to contribute to content with genuine educational and cultural impact
This is currently a voluntary position, so we're specifically looking for someone who values the experience, portfolio opportunity and mission behind the project.
If you're interested, please send a short introduction along with examples of your editing work/showreel and tell us why you'd like to work with Kids Black History.
Please share or tag an editor who might be a great fit. 🎬🌍
