(Senior) 2D Character & Illustration Artist for a non-profit healthcare app (Volunteer)
Job Description
Posted on: January 16, 2026
ABOUT KILL PARKINSON
Parkinson’s affects us all, sometimes sooner than we expect. Research predicts the number of patients could double within 25 years – meaning some of us, our friends, family, or even our kids, may face it. We fight for a world without Parkinson’s.
Our solution: a global, patient-led Parkinson’s registry. By combining the experiences and health data of millions, we can help researchers identify patterns that may lead to better therapies – and one day, a cure.
We are looking for a practical, experienced 2D character and illustration artist to help us build the identity of our service and community.
ABOUT THE JOB
We’re creating a metaphorical, story-driven experience to guide Parkinson’s patients through their contribution to a research registry. Your role will be to bring our existing story wrapper and progression moments to life through 2D character, prop, and environment illustrations that help make the journey more engaging, respectful, and emotionally motivating.
YOUR SKILLS
- You love storytelling through visuals
- You can sketch and design characters, props, and simple scene vignettes for a mobile app context.
- You’re comfortable working with a team driven by purpose and empathy
YOUR TASKS INCLUDE
- Create 2D character illustrations (friendly guide characters) with clear silhouettes, strong expressions, and consistent style.
- Produce pose and expression variations for use across onboarding, milestone moments, and progression screens.
- Design props and accessory sets (clothing, items, badges, icons) that can be used as unlockables and UI rewards.
- Create light environment / scene illustrations when needed (simple backgrounds, vignettes, location cards — not high-detail concept art).
- Prepare assets for handoff (clean layers, naming, transparent PNG/SVG where relevant) and iterate with UX/product feedback.
YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Portfolio showing 2D character and world illustrations.
- Ability to maintain a consistent style across a cast and across multiple asset types.
- Comfort working within product constraints for a mobile-first layout (readability at small sizes, accessibility, UI placement).
- Sensitivity to the needs of patients and vulnerable users
- Good communication skills (comfortable sharing and refining ideas)
NICE TO HAVE
- Simple 2D motion/animation support (e.g., a blink/bounce/celebration) using any workflow you prefer.
- Helping the team with ideas/examples of short written moments (microcopy), if you enjoy writing.
WHY JOIN US?
- Join a fast-growing team of 20+ volunteers from around the world
- Work on a cause that affects millions of lives
- Use your skills for something that truly matters
- Flexible, remote, low-pressure — high-impact
- Expand your portfolio with meaningful, future-forward tech
- Help researchers unlock the patterns that may lead to a cure
Let’s create something that helps millions.
Kill Parkinson – Join the fight.
