Senior Backend Developer - Perm - Aviation Technology

Salary: £80,000-£11,000 + equity (depends on experience)

Full Remote - Must be resident in the UK (Will not consider remote outside of the UK)

We’re supporting a specialist aviation technology company building mission‑critical backend systems used in live airline and airport operations. Their platform underpins real‑time scheduling, disruption management, and operational optimisation in complex, safety‑ and time‑critical environments.

They’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to work on the core systems that support real operational decision‑making. This role is suited to engineers who have already worked within aviation environments and are comfortable building and owning backend systems where correctness, reliability, and performance are non‑negotiable.

This is not a typical web or CRUD‑focused role. The work involves complex data flows, operational constraints, and systems that run in real time.

What you’ll work on

• Designing and building robust backend services that support live aviation operations
• Working on systems related to scheduling, disruption handling, and optimisation
• Owning backend design decisions across performance, resilience, and observability
• Collaborating closely with aviation domain specialists to translate operational needs into scalable software

What they’re looking for

• Strong backend engineering experience with solid system design fundamentals
• Prior aviation industry experience (e.g., airlines, airports, flight operations, aviation systems)
• Experience working on operational, complex, or mission‑critical platforms
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and owning problems end‑to‑end

Desirable experience:

• Hands‑on experience with Rust
• Background in C/C++, real‑time or distributed systems
• Exposure to transport, optimisation, or safety‑critical domains
