OhMyFood is building the UK’s first home-cooked food marketplace platform for daily lunch and dinner. We connect customers with freshly prepared meals made by talented local home chefs, bringing real, comforting food to people’s doorsteps.

Our mission is simple: make fresh, wholesome, home-cooked meals more accessible. No reheated dishes, no impersonal restaurant experience, just food that feels like home, cooked fresh and delivered in time for lunch or dinner.

We are currently preparing for our Phase 1 launch in London and are looking for a hands-on Software Engineer to help build, improve, and scale the OhMyFood platform across customer, chef, delivery, and admin experiences.

Role Description

This is a volunteer, remote role for our Phase 1 launch, with the potential to convert into a paid or full-time role as OhMyFood grows.

As a Software Engineer, you will work closely with the founding, product, design, and engineering teams to build and improve key parts of the OhMyFood platform. You will contribute across backend and frontend systems, including customer ordering flows, chef onboarding, menu management, delivery operations, admin dashboards, authentication, payments, notifications, and internal tools.

This role is ideal for someone who is product-minded, fast-moving, technically strong, and excited to help build a real consumer food-tech platform from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Build and improve backend APIs using Python and FastAPI.

Develop and maintain frontend features using React.

Work on customer, chef, delivery captain, and admin product journeys.

Build clean, reliable APIs for sign-up, onboarding, ordering, checkout, menu management, delivery tracking, and admin operations.

Integrate third-party services where needed, including payments, email, analytics, authentication, maps, and notifications.

Work closely with UI/UX designers to implement clean, responsive, and user-friendly product experiences.

Improve code quality, structure, performance, security, and reliability.

Debug issues quickly and support fast product iterations during launch preparation.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.

Collaborate with the founding team to turn product ideas into practical engineering solutions.

Support testing, deployment, monitoring, and launch readiness.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience in software engineering, backend engineering, frontend engineering, or full-stack development.

Strong experience with Python.

Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar backend frameworks.

Experience with React, Next.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

Good understanding of REST APIs, authentication, databases, and backend architecture.

Experience working with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar databases.

Ability to build practical, production-ready features quickly.

Comfortable working with Git, GitHub, pull requests, and code reviews.

Good understanding of frontend basics, including components, state management, responsive layouts, and API integration.

Ability to work remotely in a fast-paced startup environment.

Strong ownership mindset and willingness to solve problems independently.

Experience with food-tech, e-commerce, marketplaces, delivery apps, payments, or consumer products is a plus.

Experience with Railway, Vercel, Supabase, Firebase, AWS, GCP, or similar platforms is a plus.
