đź’ĄPrincipal Engineer - Early Series A Startupđź’ĄSystems Level Ownership for AI at Scale

📍Remote first (London-based office)

đź’°Competitive + Equity

Omnis Partners is exclusively partnering with a fast-growing AI start-up that is turning ambitious AI initiatives into production-ready solutions at speed. They are building a platform that enables enterprises to assemble, deploy, and manage AI agents at scale and now they’re looking for a Principal Engineer to take full technical ownership and shape the architecture of the platform from day one.

This is a leadership-first role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will define the technical direction, establish engineering standards, and ensure the long-term health of the platform. This is not just a coding role, it’s a systems-level position where your decisions will guide the team, set technical principles, and embed best-in-class practices across frontend, backend, AI integration, and infrastructure.

Who this role is for:

This role is ideal for a senior technical leader who has proven experience owning the architecture of complex SaaS products or platforms, enjoys mentoring senior engineers, and can translate company strategy into a scalable, secure, and commercially viable technical roadmap. You’re hands-on enough to understand the intricacies of code and design, but strategic enough to make decisions that compound long-term engineering leverage.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Define and evolve end-to-end architecture: frontend, backend, AI orchestration, and infrastructure.
  • Set technical principles, guardrails, and standards that balance speed with durability.
  • Lead major build vs buy decisions, platform boundaries, and integration strategy.
  • Shape API contracts, data models, identity/permissions models, and service decomposition.
  • Ensure reliability, observability, and operational readiness from first principles.
  • Establish testing, CI/CD, release processes, and code quality standards.
  • Partner with Product to turn ambiguous strategy into executable technical roadmaps.
  • Lead technical design reviews and mentor senior engineers.
  • Embed AI-native engineering workflows that improve velocity without sacrificing control.

Tech stack & experience:

  • Modern web stack: TypeScript + React frontends, Python services, relational databases.
  • Distributed systems fundamentals: API design, async systems, data consistency.
  • Multi-tenant SaaS systems: authentication, authorisation, security.
  • Operational mindset: performance, monitoring, cost control, resilience.
  • Experience in AI-enabled engineering workflows.

This is a rare opportunity to join at a pivotal moment, with the ability to shape a category-defining product, influence the engineering culture, and work with a small, driven, and highly talented team.
