Social Media Coordinator (Volunteer)
Job Description
Posted on: March 2, 2026
Social Media Coordinator
📍 Remote | ⏳ Flexible Hours
About the Organization
We are a political media organization producing written, visual, and video content focused on public accountability, democratic governance, and political power. Our reporting covers local, national, and global issues, including elections, corruption, environmental policy, education, protests, and institutional transparency.
Our work emphasizes documentation, sourcing, and clarity — with social media used as a distribution and public-information channel, not an advocacy outlet.
The Role
We are seeking a Social Media Coordinator to manage day-to-day publishing across social platforms. This role is primarily focused on content scheduling, post creation, and distribution, ensuring that reporting is presented accurately, consistently, and responsibly to public audiences.
Visual work in this role is limited and template-based, supporting clarity and consistency rather than original design.
What You’ll Do
📲 Social Media Publishing & Scheduling
- Create, schedule, and publish posts across multiple social media platforms.
- Write clear, accurate post copy that reflects the underlying reporting.
- Maintain consistent tone, formatting, and cadence across platforms.
- Assist in planning posting schedules around releases, investigations, and breaking developments.
📊 Platform Awareness & Optimization
- Monitor platform trends, algorithm changes, and best practices relevant to news distribution.
- Track engagement and performance metrics to help inform future posting strategies.
- Identify which formats and headlines perform best without compromising accuracy.
🖼 Light Visual Support
- Create simple thumbnails or social images using pre-designed templates.
- Apply established visual guidelines and formatting standards.
- No original graphic design or illustration required; training will be provided.
💬 Audience Monitoring
- Monitor comments and messages for relevant feedback, corrections, or sourcing leads.
- Flag misinformation, misrepresentation, or emerging narratives related to coverage.
- Escalate sensitive or editorial issues to the core team as needed.
🤝 Collaboration
- Coordinate with writers, editors, and video producers to ensure social posts accurately reflect published content.
- Support timely distribution of reporting across platforms.
What You Bring
✔ Interest in journalism, politics, or public-interest media
✔ Strong writing and editorial judgment for short-form copy
✔ Familiarity with major social media platforms and scheduling tools
✔ Comfort following templates and editorial guidelines
✔ Strong organizational skills and reliability
✔ Willingness to work within journalistic and ethical standards
✔ Flexible availability
Why Join Us?
✅ Gain hands-on experience in newsroom-style social media publishing
✅ Learn how investigative and political reporting is distributed responsibly
✅ Build a portfolio focused on editorial social media work, not influencer content
✅ Develop practical skills used in digital journalism, communications, and media roles
This is a volunteer position offering real-world experience in political media distribution and editorial social publishing.
