We’re hiring a Mid-Senior PHP Engineer (contractor) to join a collaborative engineering team building scalable, cloud-native applications within a modern distributed systems environment.

This is a hands-on backend engineering role with strong exposure to modern architecture and scalable system design.

You’ll be expected to:

• Develop and maintain backend applications using Symfony 6.4 and PHP 8.1
• Contribute to scalable software solutions using Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Hexagonal Architecture principles
• Build and support event-driven and serverless workflows using AWS Lambda and SNS/SQS
• Collaborate with product owners, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with engineering best practices
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases including MariaDB, Redis, MongoDB, and OpenSearch
• Develop APIs and backend services within Docker-based environments
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives across software quality and performance
• Write unit and integration tests using PHPUnit and related testing tools
• Support automated testing efforts using Playwright across UI and REST APIs
• Document technical solutions clearly through written documentation and diagrams

Strong commercial experience with:

• Modern PHP development using Symfony 6.4 and PHP 8.1
• Software design principles, design patterns, and scalable backend architecture
• DDD (Domain-Driven Design) and Hexagonal Architecture concepts
• AWS services including Lambda, SNS, and SQS
• NodeJS v22
• OpenSearch implementations
• SQL and NoSQL databases including MariaDB, Redis, and MongoDB
• ORM systems such as Doctrine or Eloquent
• Docker and containerised development workflows
• CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Unit and integration testing using PHPUnit
• Writing clean technical documentation and communicating solutions effectively
• Improving code quality, maintainability, and application performance
• Fluent Spanish communication skills (written and spoken)
