Position Overview In this role you will lead design initiatives to identify and solve challenges for Paylocity users. You are a hands-on leader, actively shaping and owning the user experience within their product area while mentoring and partnering closely with the team to design the work. You will mentor and guide your team. Plan and guide research activities, establishing best practices and maintaining high standards. You are a storyteller, a change driver, open to new possibilities, impact-oriented, and a strong cultural fit. Primary Responsibilities The below represents the primary duties of the position, others may be assigned as needed. In addition to people management responsibilities, this role also requires a hands-on approach to design, collaborating with stakeholders, facilitating workshops, and co-creating solutions alongside designers. - Align schedules and planning definitions, including dependency tracking across disciplines and products.
- Collaborate with Product, Design and Tech leaders to guide end-to-end experiences from concept to break down silos and launch for large or complex products.
- Influence product strategy and lead efforts to define the needs of large or complex product designs based on user insights and business needs.
- Mentor and support designers, actively shaping requirements and influencing project or feature goals.
- Provide strategic insight for project planning, working closely with other managers or reporting directly to senior leadership.
- Demonstrate exceptional negotiation skills, effectively communicating and facilitating trade-off decisions to achieve alignment and consensus among stakeholders.
- Foster collaboration across teams, identifying opportunities to build on existing work and leverage prior efforts.
- Prioritize critical or frequently encountered user goals, identifying optimal design opportunities.
- Exercise sound judgment in determining the right timing for conceptual designs and effectively presenting them to executive UX and product leadership.
- Lead communication workstreams, explore new storytelling methods, and be recognized as an expert in design advocacy.
- Leverage expert storytelling skills to captivate and influence audiences.
- Ensure the accessibility criteria and standards are met.
Education And Experience
- Extensive experience in UX, usability, accessibility, and product design, supported by a degree in a relevant field
- 5-7 years equivalent practical background, with 1+ years in a management role preferred. Varied educational paths are valued when paired with strong design leadership and execution.
Required Skills
- Exceptional visual, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to tackle complex design problems in undefined spaces.
- Broad UX skill set with experience in design and system design for enterprise and/or complex information architectures.
- Extensive UX expertise with advanced experience in design and system design within complex information architectures.
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and influence product and engineering counterparts.
- Capable of designing for multiple platforms while ensuring product scalability across various environments, including mobile, tablet, responsive design, native applications, accessibility, and localization.
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing for SaaS products in an agile environment.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach team members.
- Stay up to date with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies, adapting to changing design requirements.
- Experience leading AI and machine learning-driven design initiatives, collaborating with data science teams, and driving implementation at scale.
Soft Skills
- Expert communicator and facilitator when engaging with business stakeholders.
- Relentlessly curious about tech and market trends, with the ability to adapt accordingly.
- Strong advocate for user experience, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
- Skilled at building relationships in highly collaborative environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
- Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously
