Our client is a globally recognized leader in interactive entertainment, operating

some of the most played online games in the world with hundreds of millions of

players across multiple titles. Their platform engineering teams build the backend

services that power core gameplay, social systems, and live operations at massive

scale. Nearly every feature is delivered as a globally distributed microservice running

in containers on Linux. With a strong engineering culture, a deep investment in

tooling, and a real commitment to reliability, this is an opportunity to work on

internet-scale backend challenges that directly shape how players experience some

of the industry's most beloved games.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build, and deliver internet-scale backend services that support core gameplay and player-facing features for games played by millions of people globally.
• Define the interactions between client and server that are fundamental to every player's experience, accounting for high load, high availability, and varying regional infrastructure requirements.
• Architect robust, maintainable, high-performance microservices and the APIs that connect them.
• Build features that improve service reliability, performance, and observability across the stack.
• Implement server infrastructure in support of new gameplay and platform features, working with cloud technologies and services such as AWS.
• Contribute to monitoring, diagnostics, and live-operations tooling so updates ship smoothly and incidents are caught early.
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation and help raise operational standards.
• Contribute to the backend engineering discipline, shaping architecture, craft standards, tooling, and best practices.

Availability: Full-time, based in Australia, with reasonable overlap with the client's

core collaboration hours.

Required Qualifications

• Upper-intermediate to fluent speaking and writing English. Able to have a real-time conversation.
• 5+ years of full-time hands-on backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages. We're open to a range of stacks, including Node.js, Python, Java, C++, or Go.
• Deep experience designing and operating microservice architectures and RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with distributed-systems concerns: high availability, high throughput, and low latency.
• Production experience with a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, and ideally Kubernetes) in a Linux environment.
• Familiarity with open-source backend frameworks and platforms such as Spring and Kafka.
• Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and design teams.
• Proven experience mentoring and guiding other engineers.

Nice to Haves

1. Go (Golang) experience, particularly for operational or deployment tooling.
2. Prior experience in gaming, live-service, or other high-load consumer platforms.
3. Experience building developer-experience or internal platform tooling at scale.
4. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
