Want to shape digital services that make a real difference to millions of UK citizens?

We’re looking for a Senior / Lead UX Designer with strong user research skills to join a high-profile UK government programme. You’ll design inclusive, intuitive digital experiences—backed by evidence from real users—that help transform how government services are delivered.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead UX projects from discovery through delivery, aligning design outcomes with business goals and user needs
  • Create user journeys, information architecture, wireframes and prototypes using tools such as Figma, Miro and Dovetail
  • Plan and facilitate workshops to gather insights, define problems and shape design direction
  • Conduct or guide user research—running usability tests, interviews and surveys—then synthesise insights into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Present your work to senior stakeholders and collaborate with developers, product owners and researchers to create seamless, end-to-end experiences
  • Mentor junior designers and help to grow best practices in UX across the team

What we’re looking for

  • Significant UX design experience across complex digital projects or multiple sectors
  • Ability to lead projects independently while balancing strategic thinking with attention to detail
  • Strong communicator who can engage senior leaders and technical teams and bring research stories to life
  • Confident running workshops, managing stakeholders and working in agile, iterative environments
  • Comfortable balancing user needs with organisational and technical constraints

Nice to have

  • Existing SC clearance or experience working on central government projects
  • Familiarity with GDS service standards, accessibility best practice or analytics
  • Extra skills in content design, interaction design or data analysis
