About the Role:
We are seeking a Graphics Reporter who can turn complex information into clear, compelling visual stories.
This role sits at the intersection of journalism, design, and data storytelling. You will create graphics, charts, maps, and visual features that help the audience better understand important news and investigations across digital and print platforms.
The ideal candidate has strong editorial judgement with visual storytelling skills and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced newsroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities where visuals can enhance or lead storytelling
- Research topics and gather useful data to better explain editorial content
- Translate complex news stories/editorial content, investigations, and data into clear and engaging visual formats
- Create infographics, charts, maps, and visual elements for multiple platforms
- Analyze datasets and build data visualizations using tools like Flourish or Datawrapper
- Write and edit supporting text for visual content
- Ensure all graphics are accurate, well-sourced, and aligned with editorial standards
- Provide feedback and guidance to creative contributors
- Collaborate with reporters, editors, designers, and video teams to produce visual stories
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data journalism, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience producing editorial graphics, infographics, or visual journalism.
- Strong editorial judgment and visual storytelling ability
- Ability to simplify complex information visually
- Ability to work quickly and accurately in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Attentive to current news events and awareness of American culture
Preferred:
- Experience working in a newsroom or editorial environment preferred
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and data visualization platforms is a plus
- Basic coding knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for interactive visuals is a plus.
- Experience working in a newsroom or media organization is a plus.
- Knowledge of mapping tools (Mapbox, GIS, QGIS) is a plus.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $90,000
The listed salary range reflects our good-faith estimate of candidate expectations. Final offers within this range are based on experience, industry knowledge, location, and relevant skills identified during the interview process.
