About the Project
Ritual Tides is a grounded, realistic horror experience set on a fictional island inspired by 19th century rural Britain. The world draws from coastal communities and vernacular architecture including fishermen’s cottages, stone farmhouses, lighthouses, huers huts, and manor estates. The setting emphasizes isolation, weathered materials, and environmental storytelling rooted in place and history.
The Role
Internally, we refer to this role as Concept Designers rather than concept artists.
This reflects our emphasis on production thinking and application, where the role is focused on solving visual problems, shaping spaces, and supporting production rather than creating standalone illustrations.
A strong respect for real-world reference and research is essential, with a focus on authenticity and believability in every design. This role values artists who actively gather, interpret, and apply reference to ground their work in reality. The emphasis is on speed and iteration, prioritizing quick sketches, paintovers, and visual problem solving over time-intensive, highly polished illustrations.
We are looking for concept artists who can help us build an entire world and support the team in solving complex visual production challenges in real time. This is a role centered on exploration, problem solving, and collaboration, where speed and iteration take precedence over polishing a select images to perfection.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with level designers and environment artists
- Rapidly explore and iterate on environment concepts
- Blocking out environmental scenes within UE5
- Solve visual and spatial problems through design
- Establish mood, composition, and storytelling
Requirements
- Strong environment design fundamentals
- Strong understanding of architecture and familiarity with architectural principles
- Experience blocking out environmental scenes in UE5
- Ability to work quickly and iteratively
- Problem-solving mindset over purely illustrative output
- Experience working within game production pipelines preferred
