About The Role

As a Staff Frontend Engineer at ChowNow, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and maintaining the company's frontend applications. This position requires a highly skilled, hands-on developer with a passion for building scalable, high-quality, and resilient user interfaces using React. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including backend, product, design, and QA—to deliver features that enhance the digital ordering experience for restaurants and their customers. Your responsibilities will include setting coding standards, best practices, and contributing to the evolution of our frontend architecture. You will be instrumental in integrating multiple teams into a unified codebase, advocating for continuous improvement, and supporting the growth of our engineering capabilities. This remote role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager and offers an exciting opportunity to influence product direction and technical strategy in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a technical lead or staff role.
• Proven expertise in building responsive web applications using modern frameworks such as React.
• Hands-on experience with scalable, secure, and performant microservices in Python, Node.js, or similar languages.
• Strong understanding of API design, documentation, and collaboration with backend teams for creating ergonomic APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Experience developing, launching, and supporting large-scale B2B and B2C SaaS products.
• Proficiency working within Agile environments, partnering effectively with Product, Design, QA, and other Engineering teams.
• Ability to define and measure key metrics, lead teams to meet objectives, and foster a culture of rapid iteration and experimentation.
• Excellent communication, mentorship, and leadership skills with a focus on supporting team growth and diversity.
• Passion for supporting local restaurants and a commitment to creating impactful user experiences.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain ChowNow’s frontend applications, ensuring code quality, performance, and scalability.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and set best practices for frontend development.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design and implement new features aligned with product and business goals.
• Support the integration of multiple teams into a cohesive codebase, ensuring consistency and maintainability.
• Lead efforts to evolve frontend architecture, including adopting new technologies and frameworks as appropriate.
• Define, track, and improve key performance metrics for frontend applications.
• Mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Participate in planning and executing product roadmaps, addressing technical debt, and supporting growth initiatives.
• Advocate for best practices in security, accessibility, and user experience across the development lifecycle.
