When you think of a high-fashion getaway, a vintage trailer might not be the first thing that comes to mind – unless that trailer has been reimagined by interior design maestro Heidi Caillier.
For Kendall Jenner’s Airstream Bambi, Heidi deliberately moved away from the sterile, minimalist 'Scandi-chic' so often seen in modern renovations, opting instead for a soulful, moody, and decidedly 1970s-inspired aesthetic.
The result is a masterclass in making a small guest space feel both luxurious and refreshingly unpretentious – a design approach I absolutely adore, as it signals a welcome return to fun, vibrant room color ideas and a move away from clinical minimalist decor.
The undisputed star of the interior is the custom lime green Pyrolave kitchen countertop. Pyrolave – a volcanic stone glazed at extreme temperatures – is known for its lustrous, glass-like finish and incredible durability.
In this small kitchen, the high-gloss, electric lime is a stroke of genius. The color is bold and playful, immediately suggesting a space for creativity and relaxation. This chartreuse-leaning hue nods to the iconic palettes of the 1970s, yet the premium material keeps it feeling sophisticated rather than dated. Against the darker elements of the room, the countertop glows, acting as a primary visual anchor and preventing the small cabin from feeling heavy.
To balance the vibrancy of the lime green, Heidi wrapped the Airstream’s curved walls and cabinetry in rich, dark wood tones. This creates a 'jewelry box' effect, where the deep grain of the timber offers a warm, cocoon-like embrace. Many designers might have defaulted to light oak or white paint to make the 16-foot space feel larger, but Heidi leaned into intimacy.
The dark wood provides a perfect canvas for the textured quilts, lace curtains, and that bold countertop to stand out in high relief. It’s a sophisticated nod to the wood-paneled dens and cabin decor of the mid-to-late 20th century, updated with impeccable modern craftsmanship.

Mirroring the 1970s soul of Kendall Jenner’s Airstream, this design swaps lime green for a high-gloss orange countertop set against rich, dark wood cabinetry. The bold pop of citrus provides a playful, high-energy anchor that transforms the moody, wood-grained space into a fun retro statement.
Kendall’s Airstream shows that 'small' doesn’t have to mean 'safe.' By combining the warmth of dark wood with the bold playfulness of lime green stone, the design achieves a perfect harmony between nostalgic charm and modern whimsy.
It’s a reminder that the best interiors aren’t just beautiful – they’re playful. In a world dominated by greige and beige, this redesign makes a compelling case for welcoming fun and personality back into functional spaces – a color trend I hope to see continue far beyond the holidays.
