Inside Usher's Atlanta Mansion: A Personal Sanctuary Where Art and Family Collide

Designed with longtime collaborator Nicole Fuller, this isn't just a celebrity mansion—it's a deeply personal space that blends the singer's rich history, family memories, and a passion for contemporary art, all while challenging conventional design norms.

A Foyer That Makes a Statement

As you enter, five portraits by Gordon Parks, the legendary photographer of African American life, immediately grab your attention. Usher deliberately chose the famous 1956 photo of a Black woman and child outside a segregated entrance to be one of the first things visitors see. "I'm rebranding things," he says, acknowledging the powerful gesture. "We cannot forget our history. But what we can reframe is being able to move forward."

This sets the tone for the entire home—a space where the past is honored and the future is imagined.

The Heart of the Home: Family and Whimsy

The home is designed as a creative hub for Usher, his wife Jennifer Goicoechea Raymond, and their children. The living room features a custom "Grandma's Sofa"—a playful take on the plastic-covered furniture many Black families once kept pristine. "This is my art," Usher says, and yes, it makes that classic crunchy sound.

In the kids' playroom, a wall of stuffed animals from the children's own collections lines the space, leading to a vibrant pink-and-blue room with a small stage and foam pit. Daughter Sovereign's room has a ceiling mural based on her own drawings, while son Naviyd's room includes a Jeff Koons print and a drawing by Michael Jackson himself.

Art Everywhere, But Not a Museum

The home is filled with works by renowned artists like Romare Bearden, Julian Schnabel, Rashid Johnson, and Lauren Halsey, but Usher insists it doesn't feel like a museum. "It's not like the most expensive piece wins the best wall," he says. Instead, he's infused each space with personal touches: his grandmother Tina's piano, a cross-shaped window holding dried flowers from her funeral, and a concrete panel with the family's handprints.

Spaces for Every Mood

The home includes a barbershop, a hookah lounge for Jennifer, a golf simulator, a basketball court, and a yoga deck. The primary bedroom is a serene retreat with soft textures and blush tones, while the "Gentleman's Lounge" showcases Usher's career mementos—Grammys, a BET Award, and a jewel-encrusted football from his Super Bowl halftime show.

A Place to Come Home To

For Usher, this home is a sanctuary. After a recent knee surgery, he spent time recovering here, and he's now back on tour with Chris Brown. But no matter where the road takes him, this Atlanta home is where he's made a place to rest, reflect, and be with family.
