Company Description

Adrastea is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to closing the sex gap in aerospace through space medicine research, innovation, policy, and advocacy with a focus on underrepresented voices. The organization brings together young leaders, researchers, and professionals from aerospace, medicine, and science to advance a more equitable future for human space exploration. Adrastea’s projects challenge conventional boundaries in space science, addressing unresolved questions about human health in space. Volunteers collaborate in a dynamic, mission-driven environment that values curiosity, scientific rigor, and inclusivity. Those interested in contributing to this mission can contact the team at contact@missionadrastea.org.

Role Description

The Science Graphic Designer/Animator volunteer will create clear, engaging visual content that supports Adrastea’s space medicine and aerospace equity initiatives. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing infographics, diagrams, and illustrations that explain complex scientific concepts, developing visuals for social media and presentations, and producing simple animations or motion graphics for educational and advocacy campaigns. The role involves collaborating with researchers and communication leads to translate research findings into accessible visual stories, ensuring consistency with Adrastea’s brand identity. This is a volunteer, remote role, offering flexible hours and opportunities to build a portfolio in science communication and design.

  • Familiarity with graphic design and animation tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Figma, or similar) and willingness to learn new tools as needed.
  • Interest in space, medicine, or STEM fields and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to understand and visualize technical content.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines in a remote setting, and openness to feedback and iterative design processes.
  • Prior experience in science communication, data visualization, or educational design is beneficial but not required; a portfolio or samples of design work are highly encouraged.
