Job Description

Posted on: January 8, 2026

Akkodis is seeking a UX/UI Designer for a contract job with a client in Rochester NY 14623. "Position can be almost entirely remote, but they'd prefer they be able to be on-site to Rochester…so someone in the Northeast location/time zone is best"

Rate Range: $40/hour to $46/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

The UX/UI Designer will be responsible for designing a world-class user experience for all applications developed, including both desktop and mobile applications. This role requires a strong focus on creating seamless, engaging, and intuitive experiences across multiple platforms and devices.

The UX/UI Designer will collaborate closely with product owners, business stakeholders, key customer staff, and software development teams to understand requirements, identify core problems to be solved, and translate this understanding into compelling, elegant, and user-friendly consumer experiences tailored for both desktop and mobile environments. The individual will apply best practices in UX design to ensure responsiveness, accessibility, and optimized usability across required platforms.

Additionally, the UX/UI Designer will serve as a change agent by partnering with stakeholders and development teams to install a user-centered mindset and focus into all phases of the design and development process, championing the unique interaction patterns and user needs of both desktop and mobile applications to help drive adoption and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • As a UX/UI Designer II you will be part of a team dedicated to delivering the best possible user experiences for our applications. Major responsibilities include: Collaborate with software roadmap planners to transform product visions into beautiful, elegant, and intuitive user experiences across both desktop and mobile platforms.
  • Ensure a consistent User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) not only within individual applications but also across interrelated applications, maintaining graphical elements, interaction models, and text/titles that align with user expectations based on platform differences (e.g., mobile: Android vs. iOS; desktop: touchscreen vs. keyboard + mouse).
  • Partner with product management, customers, and system analysts to gather requirements, articulate user needs, and translate those needs into innovative concepts and refined interface designs.
  • Understand and balance both the larger project goals and detailed design elements to ensure cohesive, goal-driven work.
  • Work creatively within constraints such as technical limitations, tight timelines, and customer feedback to deliver effective design solutions.
  • Define interaction models, user task flows, and detailed UI specifications that guide development teams.
  • Design application user interfaces, including information architecture and interaction design tailored for both desktop and mobile environments.
  • Communicate design scenarios, end-to-end user experiences, interaction models, and screen designs clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Evaluate existing user experiences and identify opportunities for enhancement and optimization.
  • Participate in user testing sessions and conduct customer interviews to gather relevant feedback and insights.
  • Attend collaborative meetings and workshops bridging management, development teams, and external partners to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
  • Meet with business clients and developers to collect requirements and verify design feasibility and technical implementation.
  • Research cutting-edge UI design and development techniques to discover innovative and elegant solutions for complex interface challenges.
  • Mentor and guide other UX and graphic designers or contractors as appropriate to project needs to maintain design consistency and coherence across products.
  • Produce comprehensive design documentation to effectively communicate design rationale to clients and development teams.
  • Create UI resources such as user flows, wireframes, style guides, visual assets, audio/video elements, and supportive help documentation.
  • Test application UIs to ensure accurate implementation, identify and document bugs or discrepancies, and enter detailed bug reports into DevOps or the designated issue-tracking system for resolution.
  • Engage in software evaluation through data analytics by formulating insightful questions related to user behavior for monitoring and reporting.
  • Work as an integral member of Agile software development Product/Feature teams, actively participating in daily SCRUM meetings, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospective sessions.

Required Skills/Education:

BS or MS degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in User Experience, Information Architecture, or Interaction Design.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience as a User Experience Designer.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing user experiences for consumer-facing applications across both desktop and mobile platforms.
  • Minimum 2 years of design experience specifically for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices.
  • Proficiency with rapid and high-fidelity prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, InVision, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions.
  • Strong experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps.
  • Ability to craft and deliver compelling narratives about your designs, confidently presenting your work to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and adopt new technologies and methodologies.
  • Effective project prioritization skills, with the ability to communicate progress clearly and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Basic graphic design skills to complement UX/UI work.
  • Experience conducting or participating in formal usability and user testing processes.
  • Foundational knowledge of various software development technologies related to product development.
  • Solid understanding of common software development practices, including Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience collaborating with developers in both waterfall and agile development environments.

Desired Skills:

  • Proven experience conducting user testing and/or analytical research.
  • Experience working with applications in the photo or imaging industry.
  • Experience designing mobile apps for both Android and iOS platforms.
  • Background in business-to-consumer (B2C) applications, particularly those including e-commerce components.
  • Proficiency with graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent tools.
