Position Overview

As Amplifire’s first full-time Product Design Lead, you will define and own the design function from the ground up. You’ll establish the vision, principles, and best practices that guide how Amplifire designs experiences across web and mobile.

This is a hands-on design role – you'll set strategy, define standards, and lead user-centered design processes, while also rolling up your sleeves to design flows, prototypes, and UI design systems. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure design is an integrated, strategic part of our development process.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy

  • Establish Amplifire’s UX vision, design principles, and processes for creating consistent, user-centered experiences.
  • Serve as the primary advocate for design thinking across the organization, educating stakeholders and building design maturity.
  • Build and maintain Amplifire’s design system, information architecture, and component library in partnership with product and engineering.
  • Identify opportunities to scale the design function, including future hiring and tooling needs as well as leveraging AI in design workflows.

Design Execution

  • Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to deeply understand user needs.
  • Translate insights into intuitive flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
  • Design user interfaces, journey maps, and visual designs that serve both learner and author needs.
  • Collaborate closely with product management and engineering to ensure designs are feasible, aligned with business goals, and delivered with quality.
  • Use data (quantitative and qualitative) to measure success and continuously improve designs.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with PMs and engineers throughout the product development cycle, from discovery to delivery.
  • Contribute to product strategy and roadmap planning with insights from user research and usability testing.
  • Mentor and guide contract or future design contributors to ensure design consistency and quality.

QualificationsRequired:

  • 8+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with at least 5 years as a senior or lead designer.
  • Proven ability to design for complex, data-rich, consumer-grade web applications.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating human-centered design processes, strategic thinking, and impactful business outcomes.
  • Expertise with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, FigJam, Miro).
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing (e.g. UserTesting.com).
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills and able to influence decisions with business-oriented design rationale.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

Preferred:

  • Experience designing consumer internet products, SaaS applications, education technology, or cognitive/learning science-based products.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience establishing a design system.

What You’ll Bring

  • A passion for creating delightful user experiences that drive measurable impact.
  • A balance of visionary thinking and practical execution.
  • The ability to lead by example and inspire cross-functional partners.
  • A mindset for continuous learning and iterative improvement.
