Freelance EM Simulation & Electronics Engineer (PCB & Product Modelling)

Remote | Immediate Start | Short‑Term Contract

iO Associates are currently partnered with a client in the advanced sensing technology space who are seeking a Freelance EM Simulation & Electronics Engineer to support a critical R&D investigation. You will analyse the electromagnetic behaviour of a soil‑embedded sensor system, modelling interactions between the PCB, enclosure, and surrounding environment. This is a high‑impact contract role suited to someone who can work independently, move quickly, and deliver clear technical insights that directly influence next‑generation sensor development.

Location: Amsterdam

Working Model: Remote (Initial on-site visit)

Length: Short‑term contract with potential extension depending on project findings

Rate: Negotiable

Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

  • Perform FEM‑based simulations to analyse EM behaviour at PCB and full‑product level
  • Incorporate mechanical and enclosure elements into EM models
  • Use COMSOL or equivalent EM solvers to run simulations with high accuracy
  • Engage in technical discussions to clarify requirements and validate modelling approaches
  • Support physical testing and measurement activities at the Client's facilities if required
  • Present findings clearly and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to guide design decisions

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience with electromagnetic simulation using COMSOL, CST, HFSS, FEKO, or similar
  • Valid licence for EM simulation software
  • Strong electronics background, ideally with experience in sensor systems
  • Ability to work independently and solve open‑ended technical problems
  • Familiarity with Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) or related techniques
  • Experience with 3D modelling of electronic systems and enclosures
  • Prior involvement in R&D projects related to sensing technologies is desirable
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles for electronic housings is desirable
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate across disciplines

If you have the required expertise and are ready to take on a fast‑paced, technically challenging contract role, apply today with your most up‑to‑date CV. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful innovation and play a key role in advancing next‑generation sensor technology.
