About The Role The Senior Estimator - Civil will leverage experience from Civil Construction projects. The Sr Estimator will work closely with the Estimating, Preconstruction, Project Management, and Engineering teams. The role will report to the Chief Estimator. The Sr Estimator will be accountable for developing civil estimates and scopes of work for large scale utility solar and BESS projects. Estimating includes developing proposal level designs, RFQ for civil related scopes, and quote evaluation & contractor selection.
- Partnership with internal customer groups (estimating, engineering, purchasing, electrical project management) to bid & execute on all projects
- Assess preliminary design build documents to establish Civil scope of work required
- Read and interpret topography and grading plans, drainage and erosion control plans.
- Be familiar with single axis tracker solar system and their grading / installation requirements.
- Research and evaluate AHJ drainage requirements.
- Knowledge of preliminary Civil designs and work with Engineers to deliver proposal documents
- Prepare bidding documents for Civil scopes of work
- Evaluate Civil subcontractor quotes
- Assist Site PM teams to help manage Civil subcontractors
- Primary scopes of work: civil engineering and studies, trench and backfill, grading and drainage, SWPPP, concrete and driven pier foundations, geotechnical reports and analysis, underground risk, hydrology studies, environmental reports and compliance, phase 1 & 2 environmental evaluation / reports, minor hazardous material remediation, demolition of minor existing site facilities.
- Manage scopes of work from initial bid, preliminary design, proposal documents, permitting and coordination with AHJs, issuing subcontracts, provide input on civil site management
- Identification of gaps in project plans and implementation of recovery action plans to fill gaps
Scope: Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies. Management reviews work to measure meeting of objectives. Job Complexity: Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Discretion: Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules. Interaction: Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or schedules. Supervision: Provides direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors (e.g., technicians, designers, support personnel). Acts as advisor to unit or sub-units and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. About You
- Must be willing to occasionally travel to bid walks/job sites, primarily 80% home based
- Good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
- Ability to write contract scope of work
- Experience with civil design options or managing Civil Engineers
- Solar PV experience, or willingness to learn
- Experience with design / build, pricing and equipment management, derivation of labor rates, management of take-off from plans and pre-defined specs
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: High School Diploma or GED required. BS in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field preferred . CAD takeoff experience required. Experience with Agtek, Autocad Civil 3D, and Bluebeam preferred. Licensure/Certifications: None required. Experience: Five (5) to ten (10) years of estimating and/or project management experience in Civil Construction industry. Experience with civil design options or managing Civil Engineers preferred. Solar PV experience or willingness to learn. Experience with design/build, pricing and equipment management, derivation of labor rates, management of take-off from plans and pre-defined specs.
