RoomReview is a UK-based PropTech startup focused on improving transparency and accountability in the rental market. The platform enables tenants to share verified property reviews, supports landlords in maintaining higher standards, and builds a more data-driven housing ecosystem.

We are currently developing and refining our MVP and are seeking a Data Engineer to join as a Community Contributor to support data architecture and infrastructure design.

Role Overview

As a Community Contributor – Data Engineer, you will work closely with the founding and development teams to design and structure the data layer of the RoomReview platform.

This role is suited for an early-career or mid-level data professional seeking practical startup exposure and the opportunity to build scalable data systems from the ground up. Please note that this is an unpaid positionKey Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines to support platform functionality.
• Structure databases and optimise data storage solutions.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance best practices.
• Collaborate with backend developers on API data integration.
• Support analytics readiness for future reporting and investor metrics.
• Contribute to data modelling for user activity, property reviews, and verification systems.

Requirements

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Understanding of data modelling and schema design.
• Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience building or maintaining data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data security and GDPR considerations.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Experience in marketplace platforms, PropTech, or early-stage startups is advantageous.
